SUMMARY:Saturday Afternoon at the Movies
DESCRIPTION:Members & guests–free \nEvery Saturday afternoon\, join fellow film aficionados of the Village for an in-depth organic discussion of films new and old. Watch the selected film any time–or enjoy the discussion and be persuaded to view it after! \nThe Best Man: 1964\, 101min\, R.T. 100%\, free on YouTube\n\n– Open the YouTube App\, NOT YouTube TV\, just YouTube (it should already be on your device\, if I could paste the icon image I would)\n– Go to the Search on the app\, which looks like a magnifier\n– Type in “The Best Man 1964” or “The Best Man Henry Fonda” or Gore Vidal (there’s another movie with same name)\n— Click on the 1964 film\, it may be listed as Gore Vidal’s The Best Man\n– Then watch\, it’s free\n\nGore Vidal wrote the screenplay based on his play for this 1964 political thriller about Henry Fonda and Cliff Robertson vying to be their party’s nominee for president. Both candidates are intense\, both are flawed\, and their campaign tactics get dirty. Both men seek the support of the president\, played by Lee Tracy\, who was Oscar nominated for his role. Ann Southern was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as the party’s vice chair. Directed by Franklin Schaffner (Patton\, Planet of the Apes). Considered one of the great films about an election\, it’s a perfect watch before the midterms\, no matter who you support. See if the issues then are the same as today.
