SUMMARY:In-Person Pilates Workshop with Jessmo Pilates
DESCRIPTION:Are you ready to move with ease and feel your best? This workshop is specifically designed for seniors\, focusing on gentle yet effective movements to improve mobility\, breathwork\, strength\, and balance. Whether you’re looking to stay active\, explore new ways to move\, or enhance your daily activities\, this class has something for everyone! We incorporate Pilates and functional training to help you build a strong foundation for healthy movement. Throughout the workshop\, you’ll develop awareness of habits that may limit your abilities and learn to integrate more efficient and supportive movements. This mindful approach will help you move with greater ease and confidence in your everyday life. \nThis workshop is perfect for all fitness levels\, and no prior experience is required. However\, if you are currently experiencing acute pain or injury\, this workshop may not be suitable at this time. Come ready to explore\, have fun\, and learn something new! \nPlease bring a yoga mat with you to this workshop. \nWhat To Wear:\nPlease wear comfortable attire that feels easy to move in. Doesn’t have to be athletic wear. If you tend to get cold please consider bringing an extra layer. We prefer that you exercise without shoes\, so please bring socks. However\, if you’d rather keep your shoes on\, that’s completely fine too! \nJess Morales is a movement instructor with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Movement Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is a certified Pilates instructor through Pilates Sports Center. She began her teaching journey with Pilates\, which was essential for her rehabilitation after two hip surgeries during her dance career. This experience sparked her passion for helping others through movement. Since then\, Jess has expanded her expertise to include various modalities\, such as Oov\, Corealign\, The Pink Ribbon Program\, functional strength training\, Z Health\, Melt Method\, and somatic movement. Her teaching is personalized\, meeting clients where they are and offering options to deepen their understanding of their bodies through mindful self-exploration. Jess believes that lasting change begins with becoming aware of daily movement\, which helps clients break free from restrictive patterns and explore improved movement function. With years of experience working with seniors\, athletes\, and individuals recovering from injuries\, she fosters a supportive environment where everyone can thrive on their movement journey.

SUMMARY:Virtual Tai Chi
DESCRIPTION:Members & guests- free! RSVP below to register. This program will be held virtually via Zoom. \nTai Chi is a healing martial art characterized by slow\, flowing movements that emphasize balance\, flexibility\, and coordination. It involves a series of gentle\, continuous movements that engage the entire body\, promoting strength and stability while calming the mind. Tai Chi is often described as “meditation in motion” due to its emphasis on mindful movement and breath. Benefits of Tai Chi: \n1. Strength and Flexibility: Builds muscle strength\, increases flexibility\, and enhances\nmobility through slow\, deliberate movements. \n2. Balance and Coordination: Improves body coordination and balance\, reducing the risk of\nfalls. \n3. Stress Relief: Calms the mind and relieves stress by focusing on controlled\, meditative\nmovements. \n4. Mind-Body Connection: Strengthens awareness of the body and its movements\,\npromoting mindfulness. \n5. Mood and Energy Boost: Releases tension\, elevates mood\, and increases energy flow. \n6. Joint Health and Circulation: Enhances circulation and supports healthy joints\, easing\nstiffness and discomfort. \nQigong techniques in the Body & Brain class help amplify these benefits by focusing on energy flow (Qi)\, fostering both physical and mental well-being. \nAbout the Instructor: Julia Chung\, PhD\, PCC\, is a professional certified coach with the International Coach Federation (ICF)\, Sedona Health Coaching\, and the ADD Coach Academy. Currently\, she is the center manager and head instructor at the Body & Brain Center in Mt. Prospect\, IL. SUMMARY:Great Books\, Great Conversations
DESCRIPTION:Location: via Zoom\n\n\n\nMembers and guests – Free! \nThis ongoing Village discussion group meets online the first Wednesday of each month to discuss a selection of short readings from an anthology published by The Great Books Foundation. Although the group has been meeting for years\, they are very welcoming to new members! \nBeginning in December of 2023\, the group will be reading from the anthology Imperfect Ideal: Utopian and Dystopian Visions. All 23 selections in this anthology challenge readers to question how society should be structured and governed\, as well as what kinds of communities are most conducive to human fulfillment\, both privately and in the civic arena. The readings are sure to spark conversations that are relevant to current events in our city\, nation and world. \n

SUMMARY:Health Hub: Seasonal Changes\, Brain & Body
DESCRIPTION:Members & guests- free! RSVP below to register for this virtual program. \nHealth hub is a program that meets monthly via Zoom to learn about and discuss important or interesting topics about health or wellbeing. \nDo you sleep better when it’s cold out? This month\, we will explore those changes and the symptoms that may accompany them. Our discussion will cover the effects on both the brain and body\, focusing on topics such as sleep\, hydration\, memory\, and more. We will also delve into strategies to manage and embrace these changes as we enter the colder winter months.
