DESCRIPTION:Location: Meet at the Village office (2502 N Clark) to carpool to the Isle a la Cache Museum (501 E Romeo Rd) \nMembers & guests: free. \nThis event is accessible \nJoin us for this unique daytrip\, organized by Village member Marcia Whitney-Schenck. The museum is located on the largest island in the Des Plaines river where the French voyagers would rest\, trade with the Native Americans\, and bury their implements in between excursions. An intriguing aspect of Illinois history\, it is the exact site where all the voyagers and the Indians met. It’s also an area where you have all three waterways: Des Plaines River\, Sanitation Canal\, and the I&M.  Learn about French voyagers\, the Potawatomi and the beaver trade\, which occurred on the island where the museum is located. \nFor those who are inclined\, Marcia may lead a walk along the nearby Des Plaines river. One can also mosey around the grounds of the museum. \nCarpooling is encouraged for this event. The work of a Death Doula is to assist individuals and families to prepare for end of life. Death Doulas have facilitated life-to-death transitions for both the dying and those left behind in all cultures since ancient times. The role of a Death Doula is to support and honor the wishes of a dying individual. \nServices include: Death Education\, Consultation on All Aspects of Dying Except Medical\, Funeral Arrangements (Traditional\, Home\, Green Burial)\, Referrals for Trusts and Wills\, Advance Directive\, Legacy\, Caregiver Assistance\, Sitting Vigil with the Dying Person\, Obituary Drafting\, Grief Counseling\, Distribution of Possessions\, Financial Inventory\, Account Closures\, Personal Inventory. \nAbout the Presenter: Catherine Durkin Robinson graduated from the University of Vermont’s End-of-Life Doula program and is a credentialed\, NEDA-proficient member of the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance. She was also a longtime hospice-trained volunteer and registered pre-need counselor in Florida before relocating to Chicago in July 2022. Her varied career includes 30 years as a progressive political organizer\, 10 years teaching high school and college\, and 10 years as a newspaper columnist. She teaches future doulas at the University of New England and is also an educator and board member at End-of-Life Psychedelic Care. Catherine also holds regular classes and workshops in Chicago at St. Joseph’s Hospital\, assisted living facilities\, DePaul University\, and Northwestern University. DESCRIPTION:Members & guests free\n\nOnce again come enjoy the beautiful colors of fall on a stroll around Graceland Cemetery and Arboretum with member Laurie Desmond.  Although this is not a tour\, several prominent grave sites will be pointed out.Comfortable shoes\, dressing for the weather\, and a water bottle are recommended.  While the pace is leisurely and roads are paved\, there aren’t many places to stop and rest.\n\nWe will meet on the patio at the main gate (4001 N Clark).  Use caution when entering the grounds since the pavers are uneven.  Limited parking is available.  There is street parking and the Clark and Irving Park buses stop at the cemetery.
