SUMMARY:Curious Village (formerly\, the Men's Group)
DESCRIPTION:Online registration is now closed. Please call 773-248-8700 to register. Thank you. \nIn January\, Curious Village (formerly\, the Men’s Group) will begin piloting a new communication system\, named “Gaggle”\, for general use by The Village Chicago members. Come to learn about the new Gaggle system through hands-on experience with its basic operation. \nNote that those who plan to attend are strongly encouraged to pre-register for this session and to bring an Internet -enabled device so we can provide hands-on experience tailored for each individual attendee. \nGaggle will provide an easy way for any individual Village Chicago member to form a group with other members (and non-members\, if desired) who share a common interest. Gaggle will enable group members to communicate with each other via email\, share archived materials\, and arrange periodic meetings whenever they desire – all without relying on Village staff to manage the activities of the group. We anticipate this new capability will be useful to programs\, such as Curious Village or book clubs; also useful to Committees such as Member Experience; also useful to anyone who want to share thoughts and information around a common interest\, such as AI\, visual arts\, current drama productions\, volunteering in underserved Chicago populations\, ecological issues\, etc.” \nAs usual\, your comments\, questions\, and improvements are welcomed.

SUMMARY:The Power of Music: Unlocking Joy and Vitality As We Age
DESCRIPTION:The Power of Music: Unlocking Joy and Vitality As We Age \nPlease join us on Monday\, January 26th at 7PM via Zoom to learn how choral music helps the mature brain musically and socially. \nThis is our 3rd Annual Aging-themed Spotlight Salon in partnership with Skyline Village Chicago \nREGISTER HERE \nLearn more about our featured speakers: \nJonathan and Sandy Miller founded the Sounds Good Choir after learning about research studies confirming that choral music helps the mature brain\, both musically and socially. The Sounds Good Choir is for anyone over age 55 who wants to sing – no auditions are required! \nRev. Dr. Sandy Miller\, a deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago\, has been in private practice in the western suburbs for more than 30 years. Her work with older-adult choirs is a major pivot from her clinical work with children and adolescents. Continuing to research the impact of choral singing\, Sandy is collaborating with Dr. Borna Bonakdakpour\, neurologist and Director of the Music and Medicine Program in the Mesulan Institute for Neurology at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. The “keeper of the culture“ at Sounds Good Choir\, Sandy is the guiding spirit of the organization’s programs for people with memory loss and their care partner. \nOver a 40-year career combining the roles of musician and nonprofit arts visionary\, Jonathan Miller has conducted singers at all skill levels from complete beginners to professionals. In 1993\, he founded the Virtuoso Ensemble Chicago A Cappella Group and served as its artistic director for 27 years.
