SUMMARY:Supporting the Journey: Moving a Loved One to Memory Care
DESCRIPTION:Members & guests- free. \n  \nOnline registration for this event is now closed. Please call 773-248-8700 to register. \nLocation: Lincoln Belmont Library (1659 W Melrose St\, 60657) \nAre you a care partner\, supporting a loved one with dementia\, wondering what comes next? This program intends to provide guidance for those care partners who have not yet been faced with this difficult decision\, but may be faced with it soon. Attendees will hear from the speakers about their experiences with the transition of moving their partner to a facility. This discussion will cover important topics like cost\, location\, when to make the move\, the type of facility selected\, as well as the amenities made available. There will also be ample time built in for questions\, comments and discussion.  \n*This event can be made available virtually via Zoom as well\, if requested.

SUMMARY:Private Tour of the Winging It Exhibit at The Newberry Library
DESCRIPTION:Members & guests: Free. The library does not charge a fee for private tours of the  exhibitions but instead asks that members of the group consider a suggested\, optional donation of $10 to the Newberry. \n  \nFresh on the heels of an incredible series of Bird Walks with David Baker\, the Village invites you to a private tour of the Winging It Exhibit at the Newberry Library. \n  \nAbout the Exhibit: \nFor centuries\, humanity has had a complex relationship with birds\, which have often been seen as pests or resources to be exploited\, impediments to progress and threats to well-being. At the same time\, Enlightenment thinkers made great efforts to study\, depict\, and classify birds as a means toward better understanding the cosmos. And birds have been a source of inspiration and meaning across eras and cultures. \nWinging It: A Brief History of Humanity’s Relationship with Birds\, shares examples from the Newberry’s collection and how birds persist today oftentimes in spite of encroachment on their land\, water\, and air. \nThis experience is limited to 12 people\, so be sure to register early and we kindly ask that you update us if you can no longer attend. \n \n

SUMMARY:Health Hub: The Protein That Could Rewind the Mind
DESCRIPTION:Members & Guests: free.\nLocation: Via Zoom \nOnline registration for this event is now closed. to register call 773-248-8700 or email info@thevillagechicago.org. \nGroundbreaking studies with mice found that elevated levels of FTL1 were linked to memory loss\, weakened brain connections\, and sluggish cellular activity. Remarkably\, when researchers blocked the protein\, the animals regained sharp memory and youthful brain function. This discovery positions FTL1 as a potential “master switch” for brain aging\, opening the door to therapies that may not just slow cognitive decline\, but actually reverse it. Join us as we explore the science\, the promise\, and the future implications of targeting FTL1 in the fight against neurodegeneration

SUMMARY:Men's Group
DESCRIPTION:Join the Men’s Group for their monthly meeting on October 8th. \nAll are welcome! This event is accessible. \nThe October meeting will be on Plastics.\n\nGuest speaker Jordan Parker\, friend of Village member Stefanie Clark will share her thoughts on plastic repurposing and her activities in support of the Chicago plastic bag tax. \nThe fossil fuel industry recognizes that the use of vehicles using internal combustion engines will decline over the years and is looking to plastics as a way of continuing the use of fossil fuels. It is expending huge sums of money on building new ethane crackers and other equipment that will generate plastics. And a similarly large amount of money on lobbying to sell governments around the world on allowing it to continue making plastics. \n.
