SUMMARY:The Power of Music: Unlocking Joy and Vitality As We Age
DESCRIPTION:The Power of Music: Unlocking Joy and Vitality As We Age \nPlease join us on Monday\, January 26th at 7PM via Zoom to learn how choral music helps the mature brain musically and socially. \nThis is our 3rd Annual Aging-themed Spotlight Salon in partnership with Skyline Village Chicago \nREGISTER HERE \nLearn more about our featured speakers: \nJonathan and Sandy Miller founded the Sounds Good Choir after learning about research studies confirming that choral music helps the mature brain\, both musically and socially. The Sounds Good Choir is for anyone over age 55 who wants to sing – no auditions are required! \nRev. Dr. Sandy Miller\, a deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago\, has been in private practice in the western suburbs for more than 30 years. Her work with older-adult choirs is a major pivot from her clinical work with children and adolescents. Continuing to research the impact of choral singing\, Sandy is collaborating with Dr. Borna Bonakdakpour\, neurologist and Director of the Music and Medicine Program in the Mesulan Institute for Neurology at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. The “keeper of the culture“ at Sounds Good Choir\, Sandy is the guiding spirit of the organization’s programs for people with memory loss and their care partner. \nOver a 40-year career combining the roles of musician and nonprofit arts visionary\, Jonathan Miller has conducted singers at all skill levels from complete beginners to professionals. In 1993\, he founded the Virtuoso Ensemble Chicago A Cappella Group and served as its artistic director for 27 years.

SUMMARY:Saturday Afternoon at the Movies
DESCRIPTION:Members & guests–free \nPlease email info@thevillagechicago.org to register for this program. \nEvery Saturday afternoon\, join fellow film aficionados of the Village for an in-depth organic discussion of films new and old. Watch the selected film any time–or enjoy the discussion and be persuaded to view it after! \nThe Perfect Neighbor (2025) Free on Netflix\n\nOscar nominated this year for best documentary (currently the frontrunner)\, this film is told through police body camera video\, which flows surprisingly well. It all takes place in a Florida neighborhood where kids play in the street and one older resident\, who says she’s the perfect neighbor\, repeatedly calls the police saying she just wants peace\, quiet\, and the ability to enjoy her property. A great example of how modern Americans relate to each other and the world in general. Are other countries nicer?
