SUMMARY:Managing Stress and Trauma with the Community Resiliency Model (CRM) Part 2
DESCRIPTION:This is the second part of a two part series. The first is on August 11. \nThe Community Resiliency Model (CRM) provides a resiliency-informed approach to\ntrauma and toxic stress by teaching simple skills that are accessible to all. It teaches us that people are\nresilient\, and skills of well-being can be cultivated to reduce suffering. CRM is both trauma-informed and\nresiliency-informed care; it invites us to get to know our nervous systems and our internal sensations.\nCRM is a biological model\, focused on our physical sensations. Our brains have an enormous ability to\ngrow and adapt. The concepts of neuroplasticity and neurogenesis show us that what we pay attention\nto grows! CRM is about empowerment; it teaches that regardless of our external stressors\, we can\ndevelop skills that help us widen our resiliency zone\, which is the zone where we can show up as our\nbest selves. \nOutcomes: There are common human reactions to stressful/traumatic events that affect the mind\, body\, and spirit. CRM helps individuals learn to read their nervous system to return to their zone of well-being\, called the Resilient Zone\, through the use of simple wellness skills. Participants will learn about how trauma impacts implicit and explicit memory. We will introduce the final three skills: grounding\, gesturing\, and shift & stay. \nPresenter Bio: Maureen Burns (she/her/ella) is a Community Health Worker /Promotora de Salud with\nThe HAP Foundation. The HAP Foundation is a nonprofit leader with a refined focus to elevate access to\nand increase understanding of serious illness and hospice and palliative care through community and\nclinical education\, workforce development\, research\, and advocacy. Maureen works in and around\nChicago\, providing free community education and linking patients and loved ones to resources within\ntheir community. She has over 20 years of experience working in health care\, a Bachelor of Arts degree\nin community health\, culture\, and aging\, and a Master’s degree in Public Health. In 2022\, Maureen\nbecame a certified CRM teacher through the Trauma Resource Institute (TRI).
