Green Team Presents: North Branch Park and Preserve
Wednesday, March 6, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pmFree
Members & guests–free. To register for this program, please scroll down.
The Village Green Team goals include educating our members on environmental issues, helping them fight for things, big and small, that will protect and improve the environment, and highlighting opportunities for our members to become activists for environmental causes.
One such opportunity is the proposed North Branch Park and Preserve (NBPP), a 24-acre park along the east side of the North Branch of the Chicago river between Courtland and North Avenue. This is adjacent to the proposed Lincoln Yards, a 54+ acre development on the site of the former Finkle Steel plant. Lincoln Yard will have no publicly owned open space.
The NBPP represents the last chance to create a publicly owned and managed park for the whole city that will be large enough to contain soccer fields, tennis courts and a substantial areas devoted to nature and wild life. It would go a long way towards reducing the severe shortage of open space on the north side of the city. Please join the Green Team for an exciting presentation from Richard Wilson, the architect for the park, and others from the Friends of North Branch Park to learn about the exciting vision of the park, the status of the project and what you can do to help make it a reality.
