This week’s film
Steve McQueen’s new film anthology series, Small Axe, chronicles events from the history of London’s West Indian immigrant community, Mangrove (the first episode in the anthology series) tells the true story of the restaurant of the same name that opened in Notting Hill in the late 60s. It was a gathering spot for many West Indian immigrants and also, consequently, racist police officers. A story that unfortunately never gets old. The discussion will be led by Village member Ira Kohlman, who also recommends having subtitles on for this film as there are a variety of dialects that may be difficult for American viewers to understand.
