|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 5:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until Friday, August 27, 2021

Join the Bridging Generations Board for more short story discussions! This month, we are excited to welcome a guest curator: author and podcaster, Lauren Burke! In addition to choosing the stories, she will also join the group to lead the first discussion on August 5.

Lauren Burke is a writer and host of the podcast Bonnets at Dawn, which is about the lives and works of 18th, 19th, and 20th century women writers. She loves travel, history, and can often be found in a museum archive looking at old books. Lauren lives in Chicago with her husband, daughter, and pup and is also the author of Her Story: Rosa Parks and Why She Wrote.

While the group meets weekly, members and guests may choose to drop in for one or all discussions.

Here are the stories to be discussed in August:

August 5: “M’sieu Fortier’s Violin” by Alice Dunbar Nelson (click here for an audio version)

August 12: “How I Went Out to Service” by Louisa May Alcott

August 19: “Mrs. Spring Fragrance” by Sui Sin Far (Edith Maude Eaton) (click here for an audio version)
