Human frailty is a clinically recognized whole body condition that places someone at a 5.5 time greater risk of nursing home placement and a 4 fold increased risk of death. Although 4 out of 10 people 80 years and older are impaired by frailty, there is good news. Frailty can be predicted, prevented and even reversed. Older adults have an inherent capacity for resilience. By recognizing and using their unique resilience, older adults can face the existence or prospect of frailty with greater confidence.
