Written, directed by and starring British actor Chiwetal Ejlofer, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind tells the true story of William Kamkwamba, the young Malawian genius who built a windmill entirely with his father’s bicycle and scraps of metals that generate electricity. He saves his town from famine and in 2007 Kamkwamba gave a TED talk, about how he accomplished this feat at only 14 years old. The film is on Netflix, and is reviewed on rogerebert.com and the original children’s book is reviewed on socialjusticebooks.org.

Enjoy viewing the 2019 film for free on Netflix (subscription required), then join the discussion via Zoom hosted by Village member Bobbe Wolf on Sunday, January 16.
