Join us for a day trip to the Purdue University Northwest North Central Campus in Westville, Indiana for a guided tour of the school’s art collection and outdoor sculpture garden, including Village member and fine artist Winifred Godfrey’s series of Mayan inspired paintings.
Godfrey’s series, “Mayan Procession,” is a 14-piece collection of life-sized paintings depicting figures representative of indigenous Guatemalan groups in their attire unique to each village. “Seeing the indigenous people’s intense participation in their religious rituals left a very strong impression on me of the mystery and strength of the Mayan culture,” Godfrey said. “As an artist, I wanted to do a series of paintings to recreate the impressions I’d had.”
Carpools will be arranged to leave from the Village office to Westville, a short 1.5 hour drive from Chicago, and the day trip will be at the height of autumn foliage for this region of Indiana. Following the guided tour, attendees will enjoy a self-hosted at a restaurant in Michigan City.
