Dementia 101

This event is presented to you by the Chicago Area Villages Collaborative. June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness month. Tune into this virtual, interactive session which provides a foundational understanding of how dementia-related brain changes impact cognition and behavior over time. Effective, empathy focused communication strategies will be highlighted that support the person living with dementia, care partners and friends.
About the Presenter: Dr. Forrest, of Through the Forrest, offers guidance and education to family and professional caregivers impacted by Alzheimer’s and other related dementias. She has over 35 years of clinical practice, education, and research focused on geriatrics, dementia; pain; palliative and end-of-life care. She served as faculty member at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Rush University, held Board positions for the Illinois Hospice & Palliative Care Organization; Chicago End-of-Life Care Coalition and the Alzheimer’s Disease Advisory Committee of Illinois. She provided palliative care and dementia training in various regions of China and is an author of journal articles and book chapters on pain and geriatric related issues. Dr. Forrest collaborated with the Alzheimer’s Association to study outcomes of comfort focused care for residents with advanced dementia in nursing homes and holds a Fellowship in the Institute of Medicine of Chicago.
