AI is becoming integrated into products for all stages of our lives, including products for the care of people living with dementia. In this talk presented by Carolyn Woodruff, we will discuss some of the categories where AI products are being introduced and will look at the needs that these technologies seek to address for both people living with dementia and their care partners. We will also touch on some of the potential risks they pose regarding privacy, bias, and accessibility.

Carolyn is currently a postgraduate social work fellow at the Mesulam Institute for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease. She received her master’s in social work at the University of Chicago in 2024. Prior to moving to Chicago, Carolyn lived in Philadelphia where she worked in legal aid focused on the intersection of rental housing and domestic violence after completing her undergraduate degree in English with a minor in Statistics. She has long held an interest in the ways that algorithms and data can be used in ways that both harm and help.
