Managing Stress and Trauma with the Community Resiliency Model (CRM) Part 2

Tuesday, August 18 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Free

This is the second part of a two part series. The first is on August 11.

The Community Resiliency Model (CRM) provides a resiliency-informed approach to
trauma and toxic stress by teaching simple skills that are accessible to all. It teaches us that people are
resilient, and skills of well-being can be cultivated to reduce suffering. CRM is both trauma-informed and
resiliency-informed care; it invites us to get to know our nervous systems and our internal sensations.
CRM is a biological model, focused on our physical sensations. Our brains have an enormous ability to
grow and adapt. The concepts of neuroplasticity and neurogenesis show us that what we pay attention
to grows! CRM is about empowerment; it teaches that regardless of our external stressors, we can
develop skills that help us widen our resiliency zone, which is the zone where we can show up as our
best selves.

Outcomes: There are common human reactions to stressful/traumatic events that affect the mind, body, and spirit. CRM helps individuals learn to read their nervous system to return to their zone of well-being, called the Resilient Zone, through the use of simple wellness skills. Participants will learn about how trauma impacts implicit and explicit memory. We will introduce the final three skills: grounding, gesturing, and shift & stay.
