Delores Claiborne: 1995, 132min, on Amazon & others $4, RT 87%
Kathy Bates stars in this Stephen King tale about a tough, working class mother/wife/maid in a small, island town in Maine. The film starts with the death of Delores’ employer, another tough woman. Is it murder? Watch and find out. But the film’s not so much of a crime drama as it is a look at ordinary people in extraordinarily unhappy, patriarchal situations. “Sometimes being a bitch is all a woman has,” says one character. With Jennifer Jason Leigh, David Stratharan, Judy Parfitt and directed by Taylor Hackford (Ray).
