Every Saturday afternoon, join fellow film aficionados of the Village for an in-depth organic discussion of films new and old. Watch the selected film any time–or enjoy the discussion and be persuaded to view it after!
This week’s film is:
First Wives Club: 1996; 103min; on Amazon, free with commercials, $4 without
Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton, and Bette Midler play college friends reuniting after 30 years. They’re all divorced and their ex-husbands are schmucks. When they discover the reason for their friend’s suicide, they create the First Wives Club and decide it’s time for revenge on their exes. Very funny and sometimes silly, the film was a box-office hit in 1996. Directed by Hugh Wilson (Blast from the Past, Guarding Tess). Also starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Maggie Smith and with cameos by Gloria Steinem and Ivana Trump.
Sorry for the technical difficulties yesterday. Maybe we’ll discuss Don’t Say Good Luck next week a bit. A really well done coming of age movie with a lot of heart and standout performances from Sunny Sandler (Adam’s daughter) and Melanie Lynsky (from Heavenly Creatures).
