Director of Health and Wellbeing

The Village Chicago is a non-profit membership organization serving older adults in the Chicago area. We are one of many Villages across the nation aligned with the Village Movement, all of us unique but each focusing on the same goal of support, social connection, and wellbeing as we age.
We are seeking a full time Program Director to oversee our Health and Wellbeing program. We are a small, supportive team that values initiative, collaboration, creativity, and flexibility.
This position reports to the Executive Director. Responsibilities listed below:
- Provide support and guidance to individuals, care partners, and/or families as they are navigating various transitions in their daily lives or in traversing the sometimes daunting healthcare arena. Connecting individuals to applicable resources, either internally or externally within our larger Chicago community. We begin with individuals, focusing on the whole person and utilizing strengths as well as experience to guide the determination of what resources might be helpful to move forward with confidence. These discussions are the first step in on-going Village engagement and support.
- Develop programs and special events to educate the Village community on various areas related to health and wellbeing (legal and financial education, lifestyle tips and behaviors that can help us stay strong as we age, medical professionals speaking to their areas of expertise (e.g., spinal health and brain health) as we age. These programs are created and led by the Director of Health and Wellbeing, or coordinated with area experts and professionals to provide pertinent information and education on these important topics. We balance in-person, virtual, and hybrid events to maximize member participation.
- Identify and form collaborative relationships with community organizations, health care providers, educational institutions, and individual experts to enrich the scope and content of our Health and Wellbeing program and to create opportunities for social experiences.
- Oversee and grow our new Solo Aging initiative, providing social and informational support for those making decisions on their own, help coordinate collaborative programming with the other Villages in the Chicago area, and assist with the Research and Health and Wellbeing committees.
- Support our Volunteer Program, including: co-manage the Connector program, providing social connection between members and volunteers; assist with ride requests; and help rekindle Ally program, focusing on volunteers providing assistance related to medical advocacy for members who request it.
- Assist with daily operations (ensuring grant initiatives are met, addressing and responding to inquiry emails, answering phone, assisting with website or communications tasks, social media, potentially managing interns) and other duties as assigned.
This individual must also have the capability to work with our internal systems for tracking, updating, and evaluating participation, satisfaction, and effectiveness including maintaining record, reports, and statistical data.
Applicants for this position must possess:
- Degree in Social Work.
- Professional and/or personal experience supporting older adults.
- Ability to coordinate and implement multiple responsibilities, projects and priorities.
- Intensely proactive approach and an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Outstanding writing and oral communication skills.
- Computer literacy and comfortable working with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Zoom, Canva, Mail Chimp, DonorPerfect (or similar program), Google Suite.
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- Ability to uphold a high standard of confidentiality.
This is an in-office position with the ability to work from home when needed. Some early evening and weekend hours may be required to help support programs or events.
