Every Saturday afternoon, join fellow film aficionados of the Village for an in-depth discussion of films new and old, led by Village member Mel Washburn. Watch the selected film any time–or enjoy the discussion and be persuaded to view it after!
This week’s film is Paper Moon (1972) Real-life father and daughter Ryan and Tatum O’Neal (Moses and Addie) team up as con-artists in 1930s Kansas when Moses is unexpectedly saddled with getting 9-year-old Addie to relatives in Missouri after the death of her mother. Along the way, they con widows, shopkeepers, bootleggers, and each other. Tatum O’Neal received a best supporting actress oscar (still the youngest recipient), and Madeline Kahn (a burlesque dancer Moses picks up) was also nominated. Peter Bogdanovich’s first three films (Last Picture Show, What’s Up Doc, and Paper Moon) were huge financial and critical successes.
