Every Saturday afternoon, join fellow film aficionados of the Village for an in-depth discussion of films new and old, led by Village member Mel Washburn. Watch the selected film any time–or enjoy the discussion and be persuaded to view it after!
This week the group is watching Say Anything (1989), 1hr 40min, Rot. Tom. 98%
We’re continuing with another Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous) film. This 1989 film is much more than an average teenage romance. High school senior John Cusak(a well-liked optimist with no future plans) asks out the beautiful valedictorian Ione Skye and, to everyone’s surprise, she says yes. Heralded as a really well-written script (Cameron Crowe — Jerry Maguire, Vanilla Sky), with extraordinary acting, particularly by John Mahoney as the father. If the film ever seems sophomoric, stick with it. The dialog’s amazing.
