Members & guests – free.
This program will be presented via Zoom. Scroll down to RSVP; all registered attendees will receive a link to join the day before the program.
Note: This session will cover the same information as the previous week’s session (on 9/25). If you have already attended, there is no need to join again. However, you are more than welcome to join and meet the other care partners who will be a part of the group – or to ask any additional questions you may have!
Please join us for an informational session about our upcoming care partner support group, intended for those caring for loved ones carrying a diagnosis of dementia. Participants will learn techniques for managing the stress of caregiving and join a supportive community of others on the same caregiving journey.
This support group will meet for 90 minutes on a weekly basis for a period of 10 weeks, starting around Mid-October. We will be guided by Dr. Edward Shaw’s book “The Dementia Care-Partner’s Workbook.” There are 8 central needs that will be discussed as part of this program, including telling your story, supporting your partner’s and your own needs, and education around dementia, symptoms, and the neurology behind the diagnosis. This informational session will serve to review what to expect as part of this support group and allow attendees to ask any questions they may have before deciding whether to join.
The cost of this program for Village members and non-members will be $30, which will include the cost of the book. We will purchase the books and provide them to you after registration. You do not have to read the book prior to starting the 10 week program, however you will be encouraged to read the chapter that we plan to discuss each coming week.
Our longer term goal will be to remain connected as a support group after the core 10 weeks of the program have concluded on a biweekly or monthly basis, but this will be optional. We’d love to have you join the Village Chicago’s third cohort of this powerful program!
