CANCELLED – Chicago’s Movable Bridges Tour Presented by The Life 3.0 & Program Committees

Saturday, October 7, 2023 @ 8:15 am - 10:00 am

Unfortunately, we’ve received word that the City of Chicago has cancelled all bridge lifts for October 7. We will reschedule this tour for a date in the spring when we can see the moveable bridges moving!

Members and guests: $25.

RSVP for this program is currently closed. To join the waitlist, please call the Village office at 773.248.8700.

Join fellow members as a docent from the Chicago Architectural Center leads us on a tour of the bascule bridges of the Chicago River. We will view the fascinating underpinnings of the bridges as the tour follows the bridge lifts of three of the Chicago River’s most famous bridges: Lake Shore Drive’s Franklin Delano Roosevelt Bridge, the Columbus Drive Bridge and Michigan Avenue’s DuSable Bridge. We will learn how the Chicago River made Chicago the liveliest and busiest port of 19th-Century America.

This tour is scheduled based on the City of Chicago’s announced bridge lift schedule for sailboats to return to storage. If the bridges do not go up as scheduled, the tour will still go on as planned.

This tour is not ADA accessible. Stairs are required. We will walk 1.25 miles.

You may register for this tour until September 18, after which registration will be closed.
