Join our inclusive and fun book discussion group as we journey back to the Harlem Renaissance with Claude McKay’s A Romance in Marseille. Newly published after 90 years buried in an archive, McKay’s short but action-filled novel follows Lafala, a newly disabled West African sailor, and a rowdy troupe of dockworkers, sex workers, and political organizers in the culture-blending port of Marseille. Named as a Best Book of 2020 by numerous newspapers and journals, A Romance in Marseille is a must-read that was decades ahead of its time.
