Saturday Afternoon at the Movies

Saturday, July 16, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

Members & guests–free

Every Saturday afternoon, join fellow film aficionados of the Village for an in-depth discussion of films new and old, led by Village member Mel Washburn. Watch the selected film any time–or enjoy the discussion and be persuaded to view it after!

This week’s film: Gattaca (1997)

In the not-too-distant future, genetic engineering is common. So common that Vincent Freeman (Ethan Hawke), who has always fantasized about traveling into outer space, can’t because he was naturally born and classified as “in-valid.” He decides to fight his fate by purchasing the genes of Jerome Morrow (Jude Law), who is genetically engineered and “valid.” With his new identity, Vincent joins the Gattaca space program, where he falls in love with Irene (Uma Thurman). An investigation into the death of a Gattaca officer (Gore Vidal) complicates Vincent’s plans.
