This week’s film: Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001)
You’ve heard of the Off-Broadway and then Broadway play, and it plays in Chicago every few years. Watch the 2001 film version with John Cameron Mitchell, who originated the role. A little vulgar, a little tragic, and immensely funny, with amazing songs from Stephen Trask, who’s written many film scores. Hedwig, an East German emigrant living in a trailer in Kansas is the victim of a botched sex-change operation. She searches for stardom, love, and identity. A modern rock musical. Discussion by Village Members Ira Kohlman and Mel Washburn.
